Most applications are decided in two parts. First, you must be endorsed by a Home Office approved body as a recognised leader (exceptional talent) or a potential leader (exceptional promise) in your field. Then you make the immigration application itself. We help you choose the right endorsing body and category, structure your evidence and personal statement around the published criteria, and present your work so assessors can measure it clearly. Since August 2025, endorsement applications are submitted through the Home Office Stage 1 form, and we make sure yours is complete and consistent before it is filed.

In practice, the difference between an endorsement and a refusal often comes down to how well your achievements are evidenced and connected to the published criteria. We review your career against the requirements of your field, identify the referees and documents likely to carry the most weight, and make sure your personal statement, references and supporting evidence tell one consistent story. The global talent visa covers academia and research, arts and culture, and digital technology, with a design pathway added in 2026. Each field is assessed by a specific Home Office approved endorsing body, and choosing the right one is a key early decision our solicitors help you make.

In the sciences, engineering, humanities and medicine, endorsement comes from the Royal Society, the Royal Academy of Engineering, the British Academy or UK Research and Innovation. Digital technology is endorsed by Tech Nation, and arts and culture by Arts Council England, which also oversees sub endorsers for architecture, fashion, and film and television. Each body sets its own criteria and expects different evidence, so an application that would succeed in one field can fail if it is aimed at the wrong body or category. We match your background to the most suitable route, whether you are an established leader or an emerging one, and shape your evidence to the standard that particular body applies.

As a general guide, the Home Office aims to decide endorsement applications within around eight weeks, and the visa stage in about three weeks if you apply from outside the UK, or up to eight weeks from inside. Some digital technology cases qualify for a faster track.

These are indicative timeframes rather than guarantees, and the biggest variable is usually how long it takes to prepare a strong endorsement application, because that is where most of the work sits. Priority and super priority services can speed up the visa stage for an additional Home Office fee where available. You are also allowed to submit your visa application before your endorsement is decided, which can save valuable time if your current leave is close to expiring. We help you build a realistic timeline around your circumstances, gather your evidence efficiently, and avoid the delays that come from incomplete or inconsistent documents.

Yes. The global talent visa is a route to settlement. Depending on your field and endorsement, you may qualify for indefinite leave to remain after three years as exceptional talent, or after five years as exceptional promise, and British citizenship usually follows twelve months later.

The accelerated three year route is available to those endorsed as exceptional talent in science, engineering, humanities, medicine and digital technology, and to certain arts and culture applicants, while exceptional promise applicants qualify after five years. To settle, you will normally need to show continuous residence, with no more than 180 days spent outside the UK in any twelve month period, pass the Life in the UK test and meet the English language requirement. We guide you through indefinite leave to remain and, when you are ready, your application for British citizenship, so the final steps are as carefully handled as the first.

If your endorsement is refused, you can usually request an endorsement review within 28 days, and if your visa application is refused you may be able to apply for an administrative review where the Home Office has made a caseworking error. Our solicitors can advise on the strongest option for you.

A refusal is not always the end of the road, but the right response depends on why the decision was made. Often the underlying issue is evidence that did not clearly demonstrate leadership or was not properly linked to the criteria, which a carefully prepared review or a fresh, stronger application can address. We review the decision, assess the merits honestly, and recommend whether to seek a review, reapply or consider another route. Where a challenge to a Home Office decision is appropriate, our wider appeals and judicial review team can assist. Acting quickly matters, because review deadlines are short.

No. Unlike most work routes, the global talent visa does not require a job offer, a sponsoring employer or a certificate of sponsorship, and there is no separate English language or minimum income requirement to obtain the visa itself. This flexibility is a large part of the route’s appeal.

Once granted, you can work as an employee, be self-employed, work freelance, start your own business or hold more than one role, and you can change what you do without notifying the Home Office. You are free to study alongside your work as well. There are two points worth planning for. First, you must still secure an endorsement in your field, which is the demanding part of the process and where careful preparation matters most. Second, an English language requirement and the Life in the UK test apply later, when you apply for settlement, rather than when you apply for the visa. We explain exactly which requirements apply to you and when.

Yes. If you are already in the UK on an eligible route, our global talent visa solicitors can often help you switch without leaving the country. Many work and business categories allow a switch from within the UK once you hold a valid endorsement, so you can move across without a gap in your immigration status.

Common starting points include the Skilled Worker Visa, and time already spent on certain routes can even count towards your settlement. Some permissions, such as a visitor or short term study visa, do not allow switching, in which case you would need to apply from overseas. Timing also matters, because your visa application should be made within three months of the date on your endorsement letter and before your current permission expires. We review your current status, confirm whether switching is open to you, and plan the sequence so you avoid overstaying or an unnecessary trip abroad.

Our fees depend on your field, your chosen category and the complexity of your evidence, so we provide a clear, tailored quote before any work begins. You will always know what is included, and you can instruct us for the endorsement alone or for the full endorsement and visa process.

Separately from our professional fees, you will pay the Home Office charges that apply to every applicant. These currently include an endorsement fee and a visa fee, together with the Immigration Health Surcharge, which is charged for each year of your visa and gives you access to the NHS. Dependants pay their own visa fee and surcharge. Because government fees are set by the Home Office and reviewed regularly, we confirm the current amounts for your specific application. Yes. As a global talent visa holder you can bring your partner and your children under 18 to the UK as your dependants. They can live, work and study here, and each family member makes their own application and pays the relevant fee and Immigration Health Surcharge.

Your partner can be a spouse, a civil partner or an unmarried partner you have been living with in a relationship akin to marriage, usually for at least two years. Children who are already in the UK as your dependants can be included even if they have since turned 18, provided they still depend on you. We prepare the whole family’s applications together so that relationships are properly evidenced and everyone’s dates line up. It is worth knowing that partners and children generally settle after five years, even where the main applicant qualifies for accelerated settlement sooner, so we plan your family’s timeline with that in mind from the start.
