Consultations
A consultation is the clearest way to get advice on your own situation. One of our solicitors or consultants looks at your circumstances, explains the options open to you and what an application or appeal would involve, so you can decide what to do next.
What a consultation gives you
- An honest view of how realistic your application is, before you pay any Home Office fees.
- The options open to you, including routes you may not have considered.
- A clear list of the evidence you would need, and the risks to watch for.
- Likely timescales and the Home Office costs for you and your family.
- A fixed fee quote for the work, if you would like us to act for you.
How consultations work
- In person at our office in central London, strictly by appointment, or by telephone or video call.
- For clients abroad, consultations can be arranged outside office hours.
- Before your consultation our front office may ask for a short outline of your situation and key documents, such as your current visa or a refusal letter, so the adviser can prepare.
- Our team speaks several languages besides English; tell us if you would like to be advised in yours.
What a consultation costs
Standalone consultations are charged at a fixed fee, which we confirm with you before the consultation. Fees usually start from £250 plus VAT, depending on your circumstances and how complex the matter is.
Initial consultations rarely involve disbursements, which are payments to other organisations such as translators. If one is needed in your case, we tell you beforehand.
If you go on to instruct us on the same matter, we deduct the consultation fee from our fixed fee for the work.
VAT
VAT at 20% is added where it applies, which is usually when you live in the UK. Clients who live outside the UK are often outside the scope of UK VAT. We confirm this before your consultation.
After your consultation
If you would like us to act for you, we send you a fixed fee quote for the work, setting out what is included, before anything starts. Our fee ranges for each type of application are on our services and fees page.
