Garth is the principal partner and founder of Garth Coates Solicitors. He has worked in UK immigration since 1993, 33 years in all, and began his career as an immigration officer at the Home Office before qualifying as a solicitor. Few immigration lawyers have seen the system from both sides, and that inside knowledge of how applications are examined and decided still shapes the advice the firm gives every day.
Before founding the firm in 2008 with Michele Martin, he worked at several major law firms, where he built a broad practice in business and personal immigration and nationality law. He handles cases at every level, from first applications and tribunal appeals to judicial review in the High Court and cases on European law.
Garth built the firm on two principles: real care for each client, and practical, creative solutions to difficult immigration problems. He is closely involved in the firm's most complex and sensitive cases, and as principal partner he oversees the standard of the work across the whole team.
His clients include business people and investors, musicians and artists, well-known public figures, global corporations and digital start-ups, in the UK and around the world. He speaks at conferences and seminars internationally and travels regularly to the Middle East, Africa and the Far East to meet clients and business partners.
